Summer 2011 Rings | Jewelry Trends

My jewelry style has remained the same for a very long time - Native American rings, long, layered necklaces, and one statement earring. I don’t often take risks with jewelry because I’ve found a look that works for me and that I know how to style, but this summer’s jewelry trends are lovely and have me inkling to experiment and try something new. In keeping with this summer’s most blogged about trends, here are some of my favorite rings!

Rose Gold
Fresh and feminine, rose gold steps in to replace gunmetal as this season’s favorite metal. This pinkish metal has a lighter hue than yellow gold  but is less harsh than copper or brass and looks warm and inviting on most skin tones.

ASOS Statement Metal Skull Ring, $22.16
Gorjana Stackable Rings, $84
Noir Jewelry Stack Pyramids, $60
(I also love this Michael Kors rose gold watch and if you’re looking to splurge, check out this Jil Sander ring on Luisa Via Roma)

Natural Embellishments

Long Wooden Ring, Erin Wasson x Low Luv, $84
Natural Shell Ring, Jen’s Pirate Booty, $30
Geometric Ring, $24

Armor & Weaponry
Armor rings have been on-trend for some time now and have been spotted on everyone from Kate Moss to Mary Kate Olsen. These rings are aggressive and powerful, mixing medieval suits-of-armor metal scales with hammered metal, talons, chains, and other embellishments.

Double Cut Out Ring, $90
Leviticus Talon Ring, £70
Adia Kibur Armor Ring, $48
(Check out Bijules NYC for more, including armor-inspired nail sheaths!)

Southwestern & Eastern Inspirations

Nepal Turquoise Ring, $48
Thunderbird Ring, Erin Wasson x Low Luv, $58
Bedia Ring, $108

Tea Time

Tonight I went to a special screening of Lena Dunham’s film Tiny Furniture which I had been dying to watch since I first heard of it some months ago. There were some very raw, honest moments that were reminiscent of my post-collegiate period (ongoing?) and that “now what?” malaise that sets once you realize your degree is worthless.

Now it’s time for tea, today’s NYT crossword puzzle and The Office season 6.

CARDIGAN: Anthropologie
DRESS: Strut
RING: Turquoise Trading Post

Die Hand die verletzt

1. GWAR
I saw GWAR last night at FunFunFun Fest for the 2nd time this year and they were, by far, the highlight of my first day at the festival. Each time I see them they put so much energy and power into their shows, it’s really a full-body experience to see them live. GWAR manages to outperform and outdo any other band at a festival (even Andrew WK at SXSW who performed just before them) despite often having 10 or 20 years on them. There’s always dismembered effigies of loathsome characters (like last night’s Sarah Palin) and pouring of blood and other bodily fluids on the audience - and they love it. And so does Joan Rivers, evidently, judging by an appearance Oderus and Beefcake made on her show in the 1990s.

2. Van der Glas’ human tooth rings

3. Noir Jewelry’s 2 1/4” spike rings $50

5. Shop Cuffs “Reindeer Games” Leggings $28

Also at Need Supply Co. for $38
