What to Wear: Wedding Season

Tonight I will be attending my first ever wedding. Since I’ve never been to one, I decided I should do a little research on what to wear - what is deemed appropriate and whatnot. I don’t have much experience with the whole wedding thing (all my friends are either gay, so they can’t get married, or intelligent, so they don’t want to get married, or both) so I spent some time poring over wedding blogs - both professional and those belonging to the bright-eyed young brides-to-be who meticulously lay out every detail of their impending big day. I read about handmade centerpieces, rules on allowing your bridesmaids to select their own dresses, and finally, what to wear as a guest.

The number of ridiculous rules for both members of the wedding party and their guests is quite overwhelming. Female guests are not to wear white (bride’s color) nor black (too sombre). They cannot wear strapless dresses. Dark colors are appropriate for evening weddings only. Cocktail dresses are acceptable unless the wedding invitation specifies white or black tie. Cocktail dresses must be of an respectable length (I assume this means my micro-mini black dress it out).

Needless to say, I had to find something new and got lucky at the Anthropologie sale rack with this gorgeous, 50s-cut floral frock a few months ago. For those of you still looking for the perfect wedding outfit and hoping to find something you’ll still want to wear after the wedding season is over, here are some suggestions:
