Frantic Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

As usual, I am finding myself on the cusp of Halloween and entirely unprepared. Every year I vow to do better - plan in advance, put together something great - and ever year, I fail to do so. This year the confluence of the NY trip, a cold and a conference for work made it virtually impossible to have time to get a Halloween costume together.

Several of my original ideas have fallen by the wayside:

I had my heart set on going as Luna Lovegood donning the amazing lion headpiece. Unfortunately, I didn’t start this early enough and there was insufficient time to complete it. Ditto Bellatrix Lestrange’s bizarre witchy ensemble. This was a serious contender for first place because I’d get to run around screaming “I killed Sirius Black! I killed Sirius Black!” like a crazy. Alas, both of these costumes require serious time and effort so there goes that plan.

My back up was to go as Pebbles Flintstone because she’s cute and whimsical and innocent and because I’d get to wear a bone in my hair and bone jewelry. However it’s Friday annd I haven’t even found green leopard print fabric let alone made a dress so.. that’s out too. Not to mention I probably would’ve frozen to death in this skimpy get up.

So now that we’ve gone over what I’m not going as, here are some potential ideas:

1. Patty Hearst

PROS: easy costume because I already own everything (except the machine gun, minor detail); she’s iconic and a total badass and I wanted to be here when I was 19-20
CONS: would anyone even recognize me? Having to carry around a gun all night might get annoying after the 4th drink

2. Dana Scully

PROS: I’d be Dana Scully
CONS: not exactly sexy is it? plus Eric refuses to do “couple” costume to I’d be Mulder-less

3. Annie Hall

PROS: my favorite chracter of all time played by my favorite actress in my favorite movie by my favorite director; I own literally every piece of the costume
CONS: I own literally every piece of the costume so I may not actually look like anyone but myself; my friend Lindsay is going as Annie Hall

4. Joni Mitchell

PROS: it’s Joni Mitchell - duh; have a chance to wear a wig (which I love doing)
CONS: What if someone asked me to play a song? I don’t know how to play the guitar. Also I’d have to carry around a guitar.
