T-minus 6 hours!
Until I have to be up to board my plane for New York City!
I’m throwing in some last minute things (do I need extra socks? How many eye shadows is too many for 5 days?!) and trying to take care of my looks in the final hours (face mask, check, nose strip, check, night cream, check) so tomorrow morning (aka 4:30am) when my alarm starts its evil cackling I am fresh-faced and ready to roll.

I'm Curious: Yellow
Tonight I went to happy hour at 219 West with Garrett, Matt and Leslie. It’s the last time I’ll see them until 2010! And I’m somewhat sad that I don’t get to spend NYE with my friends.. I mean, of course Eric and Naomi will be in NYC with me and Kelly will be there and all of my NYC friends, but. Oh well.
Anyway. We had a yummy dinner and Leslie gave us Christmas presents!...

It's a Christmas Miracle!
Well.. not quite. My sister and I bought dresses for one another for Christmas. Too bad they didn’t arrive until today! But now my sister has received her present via snail mail and I can post it here! Ta-da! Behold, the publishing dress from ModCloth!
For those who now my sister’s style, this is quintessentially her! And she loved it! Hooray!
Mine is being overnighted as we speak...

Dizzy
I’m having anxiety and some pretty bad vertigo, so I’m going to make this as brief as possible. My trip to Houston resulted in some gorgeous goodies - both new and vintage. In addition to shopping and presents, my mother bestowed me with several beautiful vintage pieces from my grandmother and great-grandmother including jewelry, belts and capes!

Shoulders.
We’ve seen strong shoulders parade down the runways for the past few months during the fall/winter 2009 campaigns and the trend is beginning to trickle down to the mall stores so we mere mortals can don the structured, futuristic shoulders of the season.

Galaxy Leggings!
A long, long time ago,
On a computer that has since been stolen,
I began my quest for galaxy leggings. My friend Kate and I have many times discussed how we want bedcovers, dresses, wallpaper, everything space themed. So, as usual, I was perusing the internets and typing in random search queries such as “glitter + mini skirt + emerald green” to see what comes up when I found THESE...

A Very Matos Christmas!
I am having a fantastic Christmas break at home in Houston with my family and friends and I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas day and ate lots (I know I did). My sister and I watched Julie and Julia and in accordance with Julia Childs’ rules, I have been ingesting ample amounts of butter.
On Thursday night (Christmas Eve) we went to Neiva’s house. She’s a Brazilian family...

Leopard Print Furry Jackets? Yes, plz!
Remember the other week (day?) when I posted photos of me wearing the leopard print jacket I had borrowed from Alexis?
Well, since then I’ve been looking for a similar jacket within a reasonable price range for myself. Because I want a big furry coat to traipse around New York in.
My first find is from Pixie Market. I love, love, love Pixie Market’s shoe selection, but I...

Clarissa Explained it All
Leslie pointed out to me that I’ve being doing a lot of sock-over-tights and sock-over-sock combinations lately. I owe this all to Clarissa of Nickelodeon fame. Remember how she rocked those tights+socks?
Basically when I was 7? 8? I just wanted to be Clarissa. And have my hot bff climb into my window. Best. Life. Ever.
I just want it to be 1993 forever.

Reader Response
re: your most recent blog post. you don’t even have to go to walmart or those other awful places (except target, which is great - duh). support your local thrift store! i’ve been a loyal patron of treasure city (12th and salina) — the cheapest — for a while now. they also put on a “free market” the last sunday of… every month at 1pm in a park at 16th and...

Wednesday Workday
I’m back! I have power! I got home from work and ran around switching on all the lights in my apartment (because I can) and then sat in front of the TV zoning out at the marvel that is television and not paying attention to what was on (Jersey Shore).
Since I’ve been gone almost a week there’s a lot of outfits and adventures to catch up on!
Let’s start with Wednesday!

Electricity
My power is out in my apartmen and my laptop is running on reserve battery power. I have had no heat no light no TELEVISION since 7pm last night.
New things, pretty photos and juicy tidbits to be posted as soon as my apartment is no longer a gloomy, dark igloo.
‘Til then, happy Saturday!

Fake Frugalista
First order of business, I really hate the word Frugalista. Or Recessionista. Or basically anything with -ista at the end, I suppose. Most especially, Maxxinista, T.J. Maxx’s not-so-clever way to cash in on this trend and use it to lure 40-something suburban moms to their stores to try to be hip.
But I digress! In the interest of alliteration, Frugalista stays.
The only thing I hate more...

On a cold and grey Saturday
I was supposed to go to Houston with my sister today, but after a flat tire, my dad’s flight being delayed in Singapore, my mom having a neck injury and other things, our family outing kinda fell apart.
So I got to sleep in this morning and Eric and I finally rolled out of bed and went to eat at around noon. I was half-asleep still (grey skies will do that) so I threw on a shirt-dress...

I'm dreaming..
I want new shoes. But it’s December which means I have to spend all my money on everyone else. I do realize how petulant and self-involved that sounds, trust me.
Yesterday I got home to a a huuuuge box from Amazon waiting for me. I managed to somehow hoist it up and carry it to my apartment. I now have presents for my mom, dad, sister and Eric wrapped and ready to go! Books, done. Now for...

Boys, boys, boys
If you’re like me, you leave Christmas shopping for the last minute. It’s two weeks away, the postal service is clogged and I’m only know finally sitting down to pick out good gifts for the family, friends and oh no.. the BOYFRIEND.
I typically don’t have that hard of a time finding good, original gifts, but when it comes to boyfriends, I am at a complete loss. Especially...

"You look like a woodsman"
It’s here. The cold has come. And with it permanently grey skies and the loss of my will to get out of bed. Or do anything other than eat cookies and nap.
Austinites, we can expect snow this Friday! As it gets progressively colder, I’ve had to relearn how to dress for winter.
I feel as though every year winter rears it’s icy head and I find myself standing naked out in the...
